It was a wet and dreary February evening in Jerusalem. However, the campus of HUC-JIR was bouncing with the energy of the 2012 “From Russia, with Matzo” FSU Pesach Project Fundraiser. HUC-JIR students joined faculty, administrators and special guests to celebrate the 12 students going to Ukraine, Belarus and Russia for Pesach. The best news is that we were able to bring in over $800 for this important project! Congratulations to all. It was a night that will not be soon forgotten. Pictures below.

 

The 2012 Pesach Project locations have been announced! The twelve of us will be spread out all over Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Russia: Chelyabinsk and Tver

Belarus: Berovichi, Bobruysk, Mogilev, Vitebsk

Ukraine: Simferopol, Evpatoria, Feodosia, Kerch, Odessa, Kirovograd

Your support is needed now more than ever! Without you we cannot go and support the Jewish communities in the former Soviet Union. Below that, you can explain who the gift is for. This Pesach (Passover), Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR), in partnership with the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ), will be sending 11 students to facilitate educational programming and prayer experiences in progressive communities in the Former Soviet Union (FSU). The FSU Pesach Project is made possible by the financial support of family, friends and the greater progressive Jewish community around the world. This tremendous opportunity strengthens the connections between HUC-JIR and Worldwide Progressive Judaism, enriches progressive communities in the FSU, and provides participants with the once-in-a-lifetime experience of sharing Pesach with the unique Jewish communities in the FSU.
